We use the installation method that best fits each segment of the route. Horizontal directional drilling (HDD) for river, highway, and rail crossings — boring beneath the surface at engineered depth with no disruption above ground. Vibratory plowing for open-field and roadside routes where ground conditions allow fast, continuous underground fiber installation. Trenching and open cut where soil or permit conditions require it. All work is 811-compliant, coordinated with the appropriate road authorities, and documented with GPS as-builts. The result is a complete outside plant (OSP) installation turned over ready for fiber placement.

After conduit is in the ground, fiber placement begins — the cable is placed in the conduit, every connection is terminated, and every span is tested with an OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometer) to verify signal integrity and confirm splice loss is within spec. The completed underground fiber installation is turned over with full GPS as-built documentation — every splice, handhole, vault, and transition point mapped and permanently recorded. This documentation is critical for long-haul routes and a standard requirement for BEAD-funded projects.

Yes — full surface and landscape restoration is included in every HYKOR fiber optic construction build, at no additional cost. Every route is restored to its original condition or better: asphalt and concrete pavement, road shoulders, gravel, and landscape are all remediated as part of our standard scope on every underground fiber installation.
